Chopping cotton on rented land near White Plains
This 1941 Jack Delano image depicts African American famers working land that they have rented during the Great Depression. This method was scene as a way to help poverty stricken farmers earn and income and learn useful, new, farming techniques. This color image reflects a smaller collection of Depression era photographs that were commission by the Farm Securities Administration.
